Making Valentines

I loooove Valentines day! I’ve been making valentines every year since I was a kid and no matter how old I get it never ceases to be fun. However, this year I might have gone a little overboard when I went to get supplies at Daiso:

It’s easy to get carried away at that store. Everything is so cheap and cute!

Strawberry and apple candy are my favorites!

I’m obssesssed with glassine envelopes, especially tiny ones like these:

The rest of the supplies:

I think this is some sort of flash card game? I’m not sure, but I thought the cards were cute!

The most adorable post cards:

I love giving people stationery! I hope it inspires them to write a letter:)

Things got pretty messy:

Remember these? Add some hearts and they’re mini valentines!:)

A mini valentine sealed up with some confetti and little heart buttons:

I like to mix it up:

The glassine envelope goes in the little grocery bags along with some candy and gets sealed with these mini heart clothes pins:

They’re all ready to go! (I had to label them temporarily to keep track of whose was whose)

My boxes are a motley crew:

It’s not too late to send valentines! If you’re stumped as to what to make, here are some great ideas to get you started.

I originally wanted to make a holiday version of the security stamp postcards I created for the paper swap for the holiday card swap, but my computer is badly in need of a replacement and so I went analog instead.

I turned to my old favorites: silhouettes and office supplies. I can’t wait to send these out!

Wiley Valentine + Egg Press

Why is Wiley Valentine so good?!!! I stumbled across some of their 2009 holiday cards via one of my favorite blogs ever, Oh So Beautiful Paper. They used my same postcard idea but did it so much better!

Repurposed button envelopes, originally uploaded by suburbanpenpal.

I have all these old button envelopes lying around and I had no idea what to do with them. Turns out they make excellent gift tag envelopes. Now I just have to make the gift tags that go in them.

It’s that time again! I’m very happy to announce the second annual paper swap hosted by yours truly!

For those of you who didn’t participate last year, the rules are pretty simple.

Directions: Create one handmade item or several small handmade items in which the main material or theme is paper. Make multiple items (usually between 10 and 12, depending on how many people sign up) and send them out to your swap-mates. Then sit back and wait for your swap-mates to send their stuff to you.

To participate: Send an e-mail to thesuburbanpenpal@gmail.com with the subject “Paper Swap” along with your name, preferred e-mail address, shipping address, and a few photos or a detailed description of your item(s).

Deadlines: Sign up by July 1. Ship your item(s) by August 1. I will email you the names, email addresses, and mailing addresses of your swap-mates soon after July 1

FAQ:

Can I choose who I swap with?
No.

I don’t want my e-mail address published or sent out to everyone. Can I still participate?

I will only send your e-mail address to your swap-mates so that they can contact you if there is a problem or a question about shipping.

Do all of my packages have to be the same or can I send different things to different people?
You do not need to send the same item(s) to all of your swap mates. However, you cannot change what you are swapping after you sign up so please plan ahead!

Will I have to ship to anyone outside the United States?

Last year we had the odd international swapper, but for the most part you will only be swapping with people in the United States. If you don’t want to ship internationally, please mention it in your email when you sign up as I can’t change who you will be swapping with after the sign up deadline passes.

What if something comes up and I find myself unable to complete the swap?
E-mail me at thesuburbanpenpal@gmail.com and I’ll take care of it.

Why didn’t I think of this before? So simple and cute!

I love this mainly because I don’t do a lot of volume and this is an easy way to get 54 (full deck + 2 jokers) individualized business cards on the cheap. Viola!

Security Envelope Postage Stamps

I think this turned out rather well considering I’ve never used a sticker maker before.
